Salisbury Steak & Mashed Potatoes

If you’re short on time and looking for a meal that screams comfort food, look no further! This Salisbury steak was prepped, cooked, and on the plate in under a half an hour. It may not be the healthiest thing in the world, but sometimes we need to indulge our inner child!

Dan and I enjoyed this meal while watching Heavyweights. Remember that movie! I truly felt like I had time traveled back to the 90’s! It was a great, relaxing way to end our Labor Day weekend.

I started by combining a pound of ground beef, half a box of Stove Top Stuffing, 1 egg, 1 cup water, half a diced onion, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, and some pepper and garlic

I then carefully formed the mixture into four patties.  It didn’t stick together as well as I would have liked it to, so I may suggest adding an extra egg.

I sauteed the patties in 1 Tablespoon of olive oil for about 5 minutes, and then flipped. I allowed them to cook for another 5 minutes, and then stirred in a jar of beef gravy.

Meanwhile, I cooked up some instant mashed potatoes. I know, not clean or healthy at all, but super convenient!

Once the steaks were fully cooked, I plated them, with the mashed potatoes, and poured the gravy over all of it. I then topped everything with some chopped fresh parsley, and voila! Great comfort food ready and on the table in under a half an hour! If you’re looking for a cheat meal that is fast, delicious, and nostalgic, this is it!

Salisbury Steak and Mashed Potatoes

Servings: 4

  • 1 lb  ground beef
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 1/2 (6 oz) package Stove Top Stuffing, Savory Herbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • dash of pepper and garlic powder
  • 1 cup water (for steaks, additional water needed for potatoes)
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 packet instant mashed potatoes
  • 1 Value Size jar beef gravy
  • fresh parsley
  1. In mixing bowl, combine ground beef, onion, stuffing, egg, Worcestershire, pepper, garlic powder, and water. Form mixture into 4 patties.
  2. Saute patties in 1 Tablespoon oil over medium heat for 5 minutes. Flip the patties, cook for another 5 minutes. Poor gravy in pan, reduce heat, and cover. Allow patties and gravy to cook for an additional 5-10 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, cook mashed potatoes, following directions on package.
  4. Serve patties and mashed potatoes topped with gravy and fresh parsley.
